Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) collected and disposed of a staggering 259 tonnes of “Nirmalya” (Flowers, garlands and other Puja material) from different lakes on Monday, September 8 the day immersion of Lord Ganesh idols took place. The NMC had created 107 artificial ponds and had made other arrangements for immersion and collection of “Nirmalya.” Several voluntary organizations including Green Vigil Foundation extended a helping hand to NMC in its efforts to save Futala and other lakes from pollution caused by immersion of idols and other material.
The civic body had deployed its 774 employees and officials to supervise the grand event at the end of 10-day Ganesh festivity. Similarly, Kanak Resources Management Ltd had pressed a total of 52 vehicles and deployed 79 personnel for transporting the collected “Nirmalya” and other material.
