NMC chief cracks down on LBT evaders; Pyramid Arcade, Mahalaxmi Traders among defaulters

Nagpur: The NMC’s Local Body Tax department has continued its crackdown on the evaders and rounded up few more business establishments including Pyramid Arcade and Mahalaxmi Traders on Tuesday. LBT conducted Search & Seizure Operation at the establishment M/s Pyramid Arcade Pvt Ltd.,78, Rachana Classic, Abhyankar Nagar, Nagpur. The dealer is builder & is deemed registered under LBT. The dealer has purchased goods ( steel, cement, bricks, sanitary goods etc) worth Rs 7.78 crores since inception of LBT but has not deposited a single rupee of tax till date.

The dealer in his annual return declared total purchases as local whereas in fact as per the record seized (7 files of purchase invoices etc), the maximum purchase is from outside Nagpur. The dealer has tried to evade LBT by declaring the false information while filing LBT annual return for financial year 2013-14. After the detailed investigation the LBT department will determine the total LBT liability & as per LBT rule 48, the dealer will be required to pay penalty twice the LBT liability.

Another search operation was conducted on the establishment named M/s Mahalaxmi Traders, Omkar Colony, Gajanan Nagar here owned by Sunil Gurharikar. The dealer trading in steel, cement, bricks, sand & metal construction materials had made purchases worth Rs 19 lacs(approximately) since inception of LBT i.e. 1.4.2013 but has not paid any tax till date.  The dealer in his annual return declared total purchases as local whereas in fact as per the record seized, the purchase is from outside Nagpur also. The dealer has tried to evade LBT by declaring the false information while filing LBT annual return for financial year 2013-14. After the detailed investigation the LBT department will determine the total LBT liability & as per LBT rule 48, the dealer will be required to pay penalty two times the LBT liability.

The search operations were conducted under the guidance of Hon’ble Municipal Commissioner, Shyam Wardhane and Hon’ble A.Dy.M.C. Shri Pramod Bhusari, under the supervision of Shri Milind Meshram, Assistant Commissioner(LBT). The officers/officials involved in the operation are  Shri Rajesh Meshram, Shri Vyankat Jichkar, LBT Officer; Inspectors Shri Suresh Dhupe, Shri Nana Dhote; Jr. Inspectors  Shri Shailesh Bharadwaj,Shri Prashant Kawalkar,Shri Jawahar Dhongade; Mohrir Shri Satish Bokade, Shri Sudhakar Bulbule and  Driver Shri Raju Sonekar.

Many dealers are importing goods and not making LBT payments on the pretext of news in local dailies that LBT will be scrapped. The dealers should take note that even if the LBT is scrapped it will be from the date of such notification by the Government. Therefore, the dealers are requested to pay LBT as per the rules on the goods imported till date to avoid action by the department.
