Local media had reported how former BJP Corporators and NMC office-bearers continued to use their past posts/designations in invitation cards, hoardings, applications with police etc even though their term had ended.

On Monday, the NMC Administration issued a press release warning former office-bearers, corporators etc against misusing their earlier positions. “Tenure of NMC Corporators and office-bearers has ended on March 4. The State Government has appointed the Municipal Commissioner as Administrator. Such public representatives should use the word former before their post/designations so as to make it clear that their tenure has ended. They cannot continue using past posts without using the word former,” said the press release.

“It has come to fore that they continued to use past posts, letterheads, the logo of NMC etc. Action will also be taken against organizers of events or those who put on social media mentioning their past nomenclatures as Corporators or office-bearers without using the word former,” the press release added.

It was found that former BJP Corporator Dilip Diwe, who used his past designation as Chairman of NMC Education Consultative Committee in an invitation card, hoardings of a programme held recently and also in the application submitted to Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station, continued to use NMC name in posts on social media highlighting name and location of Covid-19 vaccination centres for 12-14 years age group along with his name and photo.

Moreover, invitation cards and posters of a programme organised to announce naming of a road in Bajeria recently mentioned Dayashankar Tiwari as Mayor and others as Corporators, though their tenure has ended.

Notably, the last elections to NMC House were held in 2017 and their five-year tenure ended on March 4, 2022. As there is no provision of caretaker in rules, Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B was named as Administrator till elections are held. NMC was flooded with complaints that several office bearers were still continuing to use the logo of the civic body and also their previous designations, although as per rules they should stick to usage of ‘ex’.
