Nagpur : When Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had started concretization of the road from Arvi Chowk on Umrer Road to Medical Square a week ago, the residents too had started expecting that they would soon get relief from the potholes. But within a week of starting the work, the NMC removed the barricades and opened the road for public without completing its concretization.

Now people are in a fix as whether the concretization will be done or not. Meanwhile, condition of the road has turned from bad to worse as water-filled potholes can be sighted all over the road and it may result in many accidents.

Accident-prone road
A week back, the NMC had placed barricades and started digging up the road for its concretization. But the work was suddenly stopped within a few days and the road was opened for public by removing the barricades. The bulldozer used in the work has damaged the existing tar road to such an extent that two-wheeler riders are finding it difficult to play their vehicles on the road. The road witnesses heavy traffic during morning and evening hours and its present condition may cause accidents anytime. The NMC has in fact multiplied the problems of the citizens by digging up the road.

Five months to complete work
The NMC has awarded the contract of concretization of the road to Mumbai-based Unity Infra Project Limited, which has to undertake the work in the first phase from Arvi Chowk to Krida Chowk and then to Medical Square. The work order was issued on 21 Jan 2015 and the company is expected to complete the work by 27 Jan 2019 at a cost of Rs 104,35,02,461. The company is now left with only five months to complete the work. Despite this fact, it is not known as why the company stopped the work within days of starting it.
