Nagpur: A newly married woman hanged herself to death on Saturday in Nandanvan Police Station area. The shocking suicide occurred a mere 20 days into the marriage, police said.
The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Asmita Nikhilkumar Bhutage, a resident of Shri Nagar. Asmita hailed from a family residing in a two-storey house. Her father-in-law was a pension recipient who also earned income from renting out part of their property. The family’s financial stability relied heavily on these sources.

According to the police, Asmita and Nikhil retired to their bedroom around 11 pm, only for tragedy to strike later in the night. At 8 am, Nikhil awoke to the harrowing sight of his wife having hanged herself from a blanket attached to the ceiling fan. He quickly informed the family about the incident. Nandanvan police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
Nandanvan police said that Asmita had left a note mentioning she loved her mother. Despite thorough police interrogations, the motive behind her extreme step could not be traced.
