Nagpur: In a swift and unprecedented decision, Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat has directed that all Raj Bhavans in the State be renamed as Lok Bhavans, aligning with the Central Government’s call to adopt the new terminology. The order was issued just a day after the Union Home Ministry advised all states and Union Territories to implement the change.

The move followed a newspaper report highlighting that the Nagpur Raj Bhavan was yet to update its name. Sources said that upon reading the report, the Governor acted immediately and signed the directive without delay.

In his official instructions to Raj Bhavans in Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, and Mahabaleshwar, the Governor emphasised that Lok Bhavan must evolve into a platform for dialogue and active public engagement, welcoming students, researchers, farmers, representatives of social organisations, and citizens from all walks of life.

He stressed that the institution should no longer be viewed merely as the Governor’s residence or administrative office but as a vibrant centre for ideas, discussion, and participatory governance.

The implementation process for the renaming is expected to begin immediately.
