Nagpur: It has again stolen the show with elan! The prediction of Nagpur Today on Nanda Jichkar to be the next Mayor of Orange City has proved bang right.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced names of next Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Ruling Party Leader, and Chairman of Standing Committee. As was reported by Nagpur Today, Nanda Jichkar has been bestowed with the Mayoral crown. Deepraj Pardikar will be Deputy Mayor. The post of Ruling Party Leader has been given to senior Corporator Sandeep Joshi while Sandeep Jadhav will be Chairman of Standing Committee.
The Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari have given their seal of approval to the names. Nanda Jichkar is considered a strong supporter of MLC Prof Anil Sole and Sandeep Joshi is confidant of Fadnavis is an open secret.
In-Charge of NMC election Anil Sole made the announcement of new office-bearers. He is likely to submit the names officially to the office of Divisional Commissioner today itself, sources said.
Since the Mayoral post of Nagpur was reserved for a woman from open category, the newly-elected Corporators Nanda Jichkar, Chetana Tank and Divya Ghurde were the front-runners in the race. But Jichkar won the race as Fadnavis and Gadkari themselves approved her name for the coveted post.
Jichkar will take charge of her post at a glittering ceremony to be held in Mahal-based Town Hall on March 5.
