Nagpur: The unplanned and flawed construction of cement roads in various residential localities in Nagpur have left the residents furious as they are facing numerous problems. Despite the onset of the monsoon season, construction work continues unabated, exacerbating the issues faced by the community.
Residents of Laxmi Nagar are particularly impacted by the ongoing construction. Speaking to ‘Nagpur Today,’ they voiced their dissatisfaction with the administration’s handling of the situation. The residents are not only troubled by the faulty construction but also by the perceived disparity in the application of rules by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), with different standards for VIPs and common citizens.
Recent rains have led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas of Nagpur, with water entering homes in some instances. The increased height of the cement roads has lowered the height of surrounding houses, causing significant inconvenience. The residents hold the municipal administration responsible for this issue.
A particular concern arises from the construction practices in Laxmi Nagar. Residents are particularly upset about a lane from Jain Mandir to Aath Rasta Square, where the height of the new cement road was adjusted to match the old road height after initial construction had begun. This was done by deepening the road by around 6 to 10 inches, unlike other lanes in the area.
It has emerged that a senior political leader from the ruling party resides in the lane where the road height was adjusted. Residents allege that this adjustment was made to benefit the leader while other lanes in Laxmi Nagar are left to face serious waterlogging issues.
The differing treatment between the VIP lane and other lanes in Laxmi Nagar has sparked outrage. Residents express their discontent, noting that the lane of the political leader has been appropriately managed while other lanes suffer.
This issue presents an opportunity for political opposition. A senior Congress leader could raise this issue, highlighting the hardships faced by Laxmi Nagar residents coming under South West Assembly constituency and potentially turning voter sentiment against the ruling BJP. This is particularly relevant as a prominent BJP leader contests elections from this constituency.
The unplanned and flawed construction of cement roads in Nagpur has caused significant inconvenience and frustration among residents, particularly in Laxmi Nagar. The perceived disparity in treatment between VIP and common residential lanes has exacerbated the issue, leading to calls for political action and accountability from the municipal administration.
