Nagpur: After serving precisely 1,245 days, more than three years, Nagpur’s longest-serving Commissioner of Police (CP), Amitesh Kumar, bid an emotional goodbye to the Second Capital of the State in a farewell program organized at Police Bhavan on Wednesday.

All senior officers of Nagpur Police, including Joint CP Aswati Dorje, Addl CPs, DCPs, PIs, and staff, along with a sea of people, were prominently present on this occasion.

The program also witnessed the farewell of DCP Mumakka Sudarshan, who has been posted to Chandrapur as Superintendent of Police (SP).

Speaking on this occasion, CP Amitesh Kumar first welcomed Ravinder Singal, his 1995 IPS batchmate, and wished him well for his Nagpur posting.

“Singal and I started our policing journey together since the dawn of our policing career. I feel grateful that he’s filling up my post and wish for more success in his tenure than mine,” said CP Kumar. He also extended his warm greeting to DCP Mumakka Sudarshan for his Chandrapur posting.

“I won’t make a high claim that mine was a successful tenure, but my fellow family of 8,000-strong and vigilant cops of Nagpur Police played their role well, up to their full potential. Whatever I’ve achieved during my tenure as Nagpur CP is merely the coordinated efforts of these 8,000 cops,” he said and remembered his past colleagues from the last three years and got emotional during the process.

Showering praises on his subordinates, CP Kumar said, “While officers serve most of the time from their AC cabins, the staff toil hard during harsh winter, scorching summer, and heavy rain and thunderstorm on the road. They are the ones who deal with people at the ground level and share most of the interactions. This huge family called the Nagpur Police ensures all sorts of peace and harmony in society,” he said.

In the end, CP Kumar also praised Nagpur’s media and its citizens. Nagpurians gave a floral goodbye to their beloved CP and clicked selfies with him.

DCP Mumakka Sudarshan, while expressing his feelings, said that, apart from professional skills and mindset, he has gained knowledge from CP Amitesh Kumar on how to deal with family. And owing to which his married life is going on with much ease, he mentioned, drawing laughter among the present.

Other senior officers, including Joint CP Aswati Dorje, Nagpur SP Harsh Poddar, DCP Archit Chandak, and others, also expressed their gratitude towards CP Kumar.

DCP Zone 3 Gorakh Bhamre gave the introductory remarks. DCP Ashwini Patil compared the program, and DCP Zone IV Vijaykant Sagar proposed the vote of thanks.
