Nagpur: In a shocking and deeply disturbing case reported under the jurisdiction of Nandanvan Police Station, a 24-year-old vegetable vendor has been arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping a 12-year-old minor girl over a period of four months, leaving her four months pregnant.
The accused, identified as Bhurya alias Wasim Khan, was taken into custody after the victim’s family approached the police following the revelation of the pregnancy during medical examination.
According to police sources, the survivor is a Class VII student residing with her family in the Nandanvan area of Nagpur. The accused, who also lives in the same locality, reportedly worked as a vegetable seller in the neighbourhood.
As per the complaint, the horrifying ordeal began on January 25 when the minor had stepped out of her house to buy grocery items in the evening. The accused allegedly intercepted the girl, forcibly grabbed her hand and dragged her to a deserted lane near his shop. He then allegedly threatened to kill her and sexually assaulted her.
Police said the accused continued to exploit and assault the child repeatedly over the following months while allegedly intimidating her into silence.
The crime came to light after the girl’s family noticed her deteriorating health and significant physical changes. Concerned over her condition, they took her to Mayo Hospital for medical examination, where doctors reportedly discovered that the minor was four months pregnant.
During questioning by family members and authorities, the traumatised child narrated the repeated sexual abuse she had allegedly suffered at the hands of the accused. Based on her statement, the family immediately lodged a complaint with police.
Acting swiftly, officials of Nandanvan Police Station registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him.
