Nagpur News.

Just resigned from the post of Vice-Chancellor at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Dr. Vilas Sapkal is the aggrieved man who is set to leave the city with heavy heart. The pressure, the backbiting, notwithstanding the fact that the campus has been marred by the series of issues bothering both him and students alike, Dr. Sapkal finally called it a day.

He was of the view that authorities of RTMNU have been  hindering the  smooth functioning of the administration. He lamented the people who attended the meetings used tactics of boycot, lack of quorum, walk-outs etc. They had somehow achieved the process of stopping the progress and pro-student decisions of university work. “In order to hide their own deficiencies, they had been blaming me personaly for all the faults and mismanagement,” said Dr. Sapkal.

While elaborating on the issue of banning admisision to 250 colleges lacking efficient staff and appropriate infrastructure, he said that even the court had observed that the authorities were unsuccessful in  providing genuine perspective on this issue. Even during his last senate meeting to present varsity’s Annual Budget, the members diverted the discussions to some other issues and eventually called the meeting off amidst uproar and noisy scenes, he anguished.

As Dr. Sapkal’s tenure in Nagpur came to a sorry end, Nagpur Today quizzed him over his stint in the top job of campus,

What was your tenure as Vice Chancellor of RTMNU? What you term your tenure in RTMNU as?

It was three and a half years. In this short time, of my tenure in RTMNU, I have done a lot of work, however, I have adhered to the rules and regulations of the University. I have ensured transparency in all the functionings of RTMNU  administration. The fruits and results of which the students will enjoy in the future.

Some of the prominent achievements during my tenure included recruitment of teachers, syllabus upgradation, Technology Park, Research projects, credit base system, ICTE, Urdu Department, Gram Geeta Bhavan and many more.

What is your message to the students of RTMNU?

I want that the students to keep on acquiring knowledge and skills. Only through the use of knowledge and skills combined with technology can one excel in life. One should learn and focus on global opportunities, in higher education and knowledge driven sectors for career advancements.

Did power politics forced you to resign?

RTMNU is run and controlled by  a group of persons with ulterior motives from affiliated colleges who try to give preference to affiliated colleges.

Was there issues of indicipline among the members of authorities?

Of Course, there were many issues of indiscipline among the authorities. They were doing wrong deed and putting the blame on the administration.

What next?
