Nagpur: Panchpaoli Police have arrested two employees of a transport company for allegedly stealing nine mobile phones and an expensive wristwatch worth a total of Rs 4.26 lakh from sealed Flipkart parcels at a sorting office in Nagpur.
The alleged theft came to light after company officials discovered an empty mobile phone box on the night of October 24. A subsequent inspection of parcels and examination of CCTV footage reportedly revealed suspicious activity, leading to the identification and arrest of the two employees.
The incident occurred at the office of Elastic Run, also referred to as Entex Transportation Company, located in Baba Budhajinagar in the Panchpaoli area. The facility handles the sorting of parcels received from Flipkart before they are dispatched for delivery to customers.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shoeb Afsar Hussain, 28, and Nazir Shaikh, 21. According to police, both had been working as office boys at the transport company for approximately one-and-a-half months.
CCTV footage provides crucial lead
According to the investigation, company officials became suspicious after finding an empty mobile phone box on October 24. They subsequently checked the parcels and examined footage recorded by surveillance cameras installed inside the office.
During the scrutiny, footage from October 13 allegedly showed Nazir Shaikh removing a mobile phone from a sealed parcel. Further verification reportedly revealed that nine mobile phones and one wristwatch were missing from the consignments.
The total value of the missing goods has been estimated at Rs 4,26,000.
Following the discovery, Ayush Kohli, the company’s area manager, lodged a complaint with Panchpaoli Police. Acting on the complaint and the evidence gathered during the investigation, police arrested Hussain and Shaikh.
The case has highlighted the importance of surveillance and inventory checks at parcel-sorting facilities, where large volumes of goods pass through multiple stages before reaching customers.
Panchpaoli Police are conducting further investigations to establish the individual roles of the accused and trace the allegedly stolen goods. Details regarding the recovery of the mobile phones and wristwatch were not immediately available.
