Nagpur: A shocking and tragic incident created panic inside Nagpur’s Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Thursday morning after a transgender patient allegedly died by suicide inside a hospital ward, leaving patients, relatives and hospital staff in deep shock.
The deceased has been identified as Radhika Mohan Jadhav (35). The incident reportedly came to light between 7:30 am and 8 am, when people inside the ward noticed Radhika hanging from a makeshift noose.
The horrifying scene triggered chaos inside the hospital, with cries and panic spreading rapidly across the medical premises. Soon after receiving information, Ajni Police rushed to the spot and began a panchnama investigation.
According to sources, Radhika had been battling severe physical pain and mental trauma for the past several weeks following a horrific railway accident in April, in which one of her legs was completely severed.
Since the accident, she had reportedly been undergoing prolonged treatment at the Government Medical Hospital and was struggling with unbearable pain, emotional distress and psychological trauma caused by the life-altering injury.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Radhika allegedly used bandages and medical cloth available inside the ward to prepare a noose, which was then tied to the hospital bed before taking the extreme step.
Hospital staff members were left stunned after discovering the incident. The tragedy also sparked fear and emotional distress among other patients and attendants present in the ward.
Police later took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Ajni Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case. Officials are probing whether the suicide was solely linked to prolonged physical suffering and mental breakdown or if any other factors may have contributed to the extreme step.
The heartbreaking incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for psychological counselling and emotional support for critically injured and long-term hospitalised patients dealing with trauma and severe pain.
