Nagpur : The investigation into the major Shalarth ID salary fraud has intensified, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) arresting three more accused for allegedly creating fake employee identities and siphoning off government funds meant for school staff salaries.

The case, registered at Nagpur City Cyber Police Station, involves large-scale misuse of the Shalarth ID system—a digital platform used by the Education Department to manage employee records and salary disbursements.

The complaint was filed by Ravindra Gyaneshwar Patil, Junior Administrative Officer at the Deputy Director of Education’s office. A case has been registered under IPC sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(1), 340(2), 61(2), 238, along with provisions of the Information Technology Act, including Section 66(a).

– 2 School Directors
– 3 Assistant Teachers

The SIT recently uncovered evidence showing that the three newly arrested accused created fake Shalarth IDs for themselves to illegally draw government salaries.

The new arrests include:

  1. Jagdish Dinkarrao Dhengre (35) – Junior Clerk, Charandas Primary School, Nagpur
  2. Hemant Yashwant Dhakate (35) – Junior Clerk, Jagannath Public School, Bhandewadi
  3. Akshay Sanjay Gande (31) – Junior Clerk, Vidya Vikas Upper Primary School, Wathoda Layout

According to investigators, the trio colluded with school principals, education officers, deputy directors, and salary authorities to generate fake staff IDs, which enabled them to misappropriate lakhs of rupees in salary payments.

The Cyber Police arrested all three accused on 9 November 2025. The investigation continues under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Baliam Sutar, and SIT officers say more arrests are likely as the probe deepens.

The case has exposed how a tampered digital system can be turned into a money machine when bureaucracy and technology are exploited together — a reminder of how fragile institutional trust can be when oversight cracks.
