Umred/Nagpur: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Nagpur Rural Police have seized 2.285 kilograms of opium from Jharkhand’s Khunti district and uncovered a wider inter-state drug trafficking network. The operation led to the recovery of contraband, electronic devices and other evidence worth ₹13.05 lakh.
The latest action is part of an ongoing investigation into an opium trafficking case registered in Umred on May 20, 2026.
Inter-State Drug Racket Unearthed
While probing the case, the Anti-Narcotics Team of Nagpur Rural Police had earlier exposed an inter-state trafficking syndicate operating across Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
During an earlier raid conducted in Simdega, Jharkhand, police arrested hotel businessman Manish Kumar Ambikaprasad (46). Authorities had then seized 33.767 kilograms of opium, ₹23.35 lakh in cash, and other material, taking the total value of the recovered assets to ₹1.92 crore.
The arrest provided crucial leads that helped investigators trace the supply chain further into Jharkhand.
Main Supplier Identified
Acting under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Harsh A. Poddar and Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Mhaske, a special investigation team conducted an extensive interrogation of the arrested accused.
The probe revealed that Vimal Singh Munda, a resident of Khunti district in Jharkhand, was allegedly one of the key suppliers in the network.
When police attempted to locate him, they found that he had absconded.
Raid Conducted in Jharkhand
Investigators subsequently gathered information about the suspect’s family and residence in the Bundu area. With the assistance of local police, a raid was conducted at the accused’s house.
During the search operation, officers discovered a substantial quantity of opium along with electronic devices believed to be linked to the trafficking operation.
Contraband and Electronic Evidence Seized
In the raid conducted on June 3, 2026, police recovered:
- 2.285 kg of opium valued at approximately ₹11.42 lakh
- One laptop
- Two mobile handsets
- One electronic weighing scale
The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹13.05 lakh.
Investigation Continues
Nagpur Rural Police said further investigations are underway to identify additional members of the inter-state narcotics network and trace the broader supply chain.
Officials believe the latest seizure could provide important leads into a larger trafficking syndicate operating across multiple states.
The police have indicated that more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
