Nagpur: A rape and wrongful confinement case registered at Panchpaoli Police Station in Nagpur has taken a significant turn after investigators found that key allegations against the accused, his father, and a female companion are not corroborated by preliminary medical and technical evidence.
The case, which had initially drawn wide attention due to its serious nature, was filed by a 29-year-old woman who alleged that she was illegally confined and sexually assaulted at her residence in Nagpur on January 10. She claimed that the accused, along with his father and a woman, had forced themselves into her home.
According to the victim, the ordeal dates back to 2021 while she was pursuing education in Chandrapur. She alleged that a hidden camera had been installed in a garment shop changing room, recording an objectionable video of her, which was later used to extort sexual favours and money. A rape case in connection with this incident had been filed in Chandrapur, resulting in the arrest of the accused, who was subsequently released on bail. The victim said continued harassment forced her to relocate to Nagpur.
However, officials probing the case in Nagpur said that initial technical analysis, including mobile location data and other digital evidence, suggests that the prime accused was not present in the city on the date mentioned in the complaint. The victim’s medical examination also did not indicate any signs of sexual assault.
A senior police officer noted, “At this stage, several allegations made by the complainant do not match the medical and technical evidence collected. Investigation is ongoing, and all aspects are being examined thoroughly.” The officer also indicated that the inquiry revealed information suggesting the victim may have a history of filing similar complaints.
Police cautioned against the misuse of legal provisions designed to protect victims, warning that false complaints not only harm innocent individuals but also weaken genuine cases and strain the justice system. Officials said that once the ongoing election process concludes, strict legal action may be taken if it is established that individuals were wrongly implicated.
The investigation is continuing, and police said the final course of action will be determined based on the complete outcome of the probe.
