Nagpur: The city of Nagpur has been witnessing relentless heavy rainfall over the past three days, significantly affecting both urban and rural life. In view of the continuous downpour and the forecast of more rain in the coming days, District Collector Vipin Itankar has declared a precautionary holiday for all schools across the district on Wednesday. This order applies to both government and private schools.
Rain Continues Unabated for Over 60 Hours
Rainfall in Nagpur district began late Sunday night and has continued without interruption. By Wednesday morning, the region had recorded approximately 172.2 mm of rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for July 9, warning of continued rainfall in the area.
Daily Life Severely Affected
The persistent rainfall has disrupted normal life across the city. Waterlogging has been reported in several areas, including main roads and low-lying neighborhoods. Many streets have turned into water channels, and vehicles are moving slowly through submerged roads. Due to these conditions, residents are struggling to step out for daily essentials. Heavy traffic congestion has also been reported during peak hours, especially in market areas and major routes.
Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely as the rainfall shows no signs of abating. Residents are advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
