Nagpur: Aimed at enhancing the amenities and facilities to Rail users and also to cater the emergent medical needs of the travelling passengers, an emergency medical room and a pharmacy will soon be added at Nagpur Railway Station, said Nagpur Division of Central Railway.
According to reports, the facility can also be availed by people staying in the vicinity of the railway stations, persons accompanying passengers to see them off and others at the stations. The project would also generate non-freight revenue for the Central railway Nagpur division.
The pharmacy would be of immense help as it would function 24×7 and provide much-needed aid to travellers needing routine or urgent medicine while on travel. Long distance trains on North-South-North and EastWest-East and East-North-East routes have halts at Nagpur station and hence the prospect of EMR came up as aim is to avoid delay in providing required medical first aid.
Currently, it’s the overburdened railway hospital and its team of doctors that attend to any medical emergencies in train and railway platforms. Every year, there are 60-70 deliveries in trains and several other medical emergencies. A dedicated unit and team on the platform can more effectively help an ailing passenger, said a railway official.
The quality control would be done by Chief Medical Superintendent of the Railway Hospital, Dr Champak Biswas, and his team. The commercial team, under Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Krishnath Patil, DCM Vijay Thool and Chief Commercial Inspector TP Acharya, is developing the concept by inviting top names in the healthcare sector from the city through a tendering process. According to an official, passengers can request the emergency medical room staff to shift them to any hospital, government or private, depending upon the choice in case they need prolonged medical assistance.
