Nagpur: In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old property dealer was allegedly abducted, held captive at a farmhouse, and brutally assaulted by a moneylender and his associates in a bid to forcefully take over his mortgaged property. The Hudkeshwar police have arrested four accused in connection with the case.

The victim, Vishal Shankarrao Urkude, a resident of Rachna Colony on Pipla Road, had borrowed Rs 30 lakh in 2022-23 from a known acquaintance and moneylender, Praveen alias Balu Bhaurao Burkewar of Siraspeth. In return, he mortgaged a plot of land at Bahadura and four commercial shops located in Narsala. According to the police, Vishal had taken the loan to help secure employment for his wife and to fund medical treatment for his ailing nephew.

Vishal had been repaying Rs 56,000 per month and had already returned Rs 13.44 lakh. However, financial difficulties forced him to halt repayments. This reportedly led to mounting pressure from Praveen and his associate, Nilesh Amritrao Nagarkar, also a resident of Siraspeth. The duo began harassing Vishal and his mother, Shakuntala Urkude, coercing them to transfer ownership of the mortgaged properties. They even allegedly took illegal possession of the land and forcefully vacated the shops.

The situation escalated on Tuesday morning, July 15, when two men intercepted Vishal near his residence around 10:30 am and forcibly pushed him into a car (MH40/BM-0027). He was first taken near Vithoba Lawn, where Praveen and Nilesh Nagarkar joined in and began assaulting him. Later, the group took Vishal to a farmhouse in Umbargaon on Umred Road, where he was tied up and thrashed with sticks. The accused reportedly threatened him to sign over the properties in their name.

Back home, his mother and wife, unable to contact him, approached Hudkeshwar Police Station and filed a missing person report. Acting swiftly, the police contacted Praveen and ordered him to present Vishal at the station. The accused brought Vishal there and allegedly tried to intimidate him into silence. However, Vishal revealed the entire ordeal to the police and was immediately admitted to a hospital for treatment.

A case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC pertaining to kidnapping, assault, and criminal intimidation. The police arrested Praveen Burkewar, Nilesh Nagarkar, and their two associates, Nilesh Gyaneshwarrao Telkhande and Rakesh Haribhau Avachat, all from Siraspeth.

All four were produced before the court on Wednesday and have been remanded to police custody till July 18.
