
Nagpur: In a proactive step to combat the growing menace of online fraud and digital crime, the Nagpur City Police successfully organized the ‘Maha Cyber Security and Awareness Camp’ on October 27 at Suresh Bhat Auditorium, Reshimbagh, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal.
The initiative, conceptualized by Dr. Singal himself, seeks to empower citizens with cyber literacy and awareness, helping them recognize online threats and prevent financial and data losses. The event, jointly hosted by the Cyber Police Station, Nagpur, drew an enthusiastic response from students, police personnel, and general citizens.
Citizens losing Rs 30 lakh daily to cyber fraud
Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic & Cyber) Lohit Matani revealed that Nagpur citizens collectively lose around Rs 30 lakh every day to various cyber scams. He stressed that cyber awareness must become a community movement.
“Through this camp, we aim to make citizens, especially the youth, digitally vigilant while enhancing the investigation capabilities of our police force,” he said.
Experts and dignitaries share insights
The event featured Sandeep Patil, Inspector General of Police, Gadchiroli Range, and Amit Kumar Dubey, a renowned cybersecurity expert from New Delhi, as chief guests. Both were felicitated by the Police Commissioner with saplings and mementoes as tokens of appreciation.
In a captivating session, Amit Dubey spoke about the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in cyber investigations and how technology can be used both defensively and offensively in cyberspace. He emphasized digital hygiene, the dangers of phishing, and the use of AI tools to strengthen law enforcement.
Several officers from the Cyber Police Station were honoured for their exceptional contributions.

• PSIs Sandeep Bagul, Vijay Rane, and Shankar Pandhare were commended for excellence in detection.
• HC Atul Agarkar and WPC Shraddha Dhomne were appreciated for conducting cyber awareness drives in schools and colleges.
• WPC Rekha Yadav was acknowledged for her exemplary work on the NCR portal.
‘Cyber Literacy for All’– Commissioner Singal’s call
In his address, Commissioner of Police Dr. Singal urged every citizen to become cyber literate, calling it an essential life skill in today’s digital era. He also encouraged police personnel to deepen their knowledge of AI-powered technologies like ChatGPT to boost the efficiency of cybercrime investigations.
The camp was attended by a large number of senior police officials, including Additional CP (North) Rajendra Dabhade, DCPs Lohit Matani, Rahul Madne, Dr. Sandeep Patil, Niketan Kadam, Mahak Swami, and Deepak Agrawal, as well as Assistant Commissioners, Senior Inspectors, NGO representatives, and hundreds of students.
The event was compered by PSI Maroti Shelke, while DCP (Headquarters) Deepak Agrawal proposed the vote of thanks. The camp concluded with the National Anthem, marking the successful completion of yet another public outreach initiative by the Nagpur Police to ensure a safer digital ecosystem for all.
