Nagpur: The Nagpur Police have begun preparations for a comprehensive security plan ahead of the 70th Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din and Navratri celebrations, with large crowds expected at key religious and cultural venues across the city.
A review meeting on security arrangements was held under the chairmanship of Police Commissioner Dr Vishwas Nangre Patil. Officials from the police department, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, district administration, NIT, MSEDCL and the Food and Drug Administration participated in the meeting.

According to the schedule outlined by the administration, Navratri will begin on October 11, while the 70th Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din and Vijayadashami will be observed on October 20.
Security at Key Venues
Large numbers of devotees and followers are expected at Deekshabhoomi, Bajaj Nagar, Dragon Palace in Kamptee and Naglok in Bhilgaon. Police officials have therefore been directed to ensure adequate deployment at sensitive and highly sensitive locations, religious sites, procession routes and other crowded areas.
The administration is also working on arrangements for traffic management, parking, CCTV surveillance, drinking water, sanitation, electricity supply, medical facilities and emergency response systems.
Separate security arrangements will also be made at Navratri events, including garba and dandiya programmes, Durga idol immersion processions and public mandals.
Recent preparations for major city festivals have also included extensive CCTV and drone surveillance, along with dedicated police, Quick Response Team and emergency-response resources.
Focus on Women and Children’s Safety
Special measures are being planned for the safety of women and children, while all concerned departments have been asked to work in coordination.
The police have appealed to citizens to celebrate the festivals peacefully, follow official instructions and avoid believing or spreading rumours.
Nagpur Police have also been maintaining restrictions on certain high-powered sound systems and laser/beam lights during the ongoing festival season under Section 163 of the BNSS.
Preparations for Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din are also being coordinated across government departments, with arrangements for sanitation, health, security and other essential facilities being reviewed ahead of the October 20 event.
