Nagpur: A police constable from Nagpur has landed in controversy after an FIR was registered against him at MIDC Police Station for allegedly harassing and assaulting his wife under the influence of alcohol. The accused has been identified as Nitesh Wahile, and the incident has triggered outrage among citizens, with many demanding his immediate suspension and strict departmental action.
According to police sources, the couple got married in 2016, after which the accused allegedly subjected his wife to continuous mental and physical harassment. The complaint states that the constable frequently assaulted his wife while intoxicated and also allegedly abused her using casteist slurs.
The victim further alleged that the accused often misbehaved with her relatives and would pick fights over trivial matters. In her complaint, she also expressed suspicion over the constable’s alleged relationship with another woman, which reportedly led to frequent disputes between the couple.
As per the complaint, on April 17, the woman had attended a relative’s wedding function at Bharatwada and stayed overnight at her mother’s house due to the late hour. The following day, the accused allegedly became enraged over the issue, assaulted her, and threatened to throw her out of the house.
The incident has sparked anger among local residents, many of whom questioned how citizens could expect justice if law enforcement personnel themselves are accused of crimes against women. Demands are now growing for the constable’s immediate suspension and a fair investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, MIDC Police have registered a case against accused constable Nitesh Wahile and initiated further investigation.
