Even as the issue of paper leak marred the police recruitment drive in Nagpur, city police commissioner SP Yadav landed himself in a soup as he doled out controversial remarks about the knowledge of women cops. The venue of written examination for police recruitment turned out to be the fuel point for this controversy on Tuesday when the police chief came up with derogatory comments about the efficiency of women cops in city police department.

Replying to a question asked by one of the journalists about the major presence of women staff at the venue, Yadav undermined the women’s sense of knowledge saying that the move was undertaken to avoid cheating at the examination centre. When quizzed further he justified his comment by saying that male cops tend to help the examinees by sharing their knowledge whereas in case of women no such thing happens as they knew nothing.

When told that his remark was posing a question mark on capacity of police women in his department, he blatantly replied that he was not questioning anybody’s efficiency but he knows the calibre of his women staff and the amount of general knowledge they have.
CP’s remarks has evoked outrage among the media fraternity as it came at a time when the government is seriously advocating women empowerment.
