
Nagpur: To mark the 150th birth anniversary of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and “Iron Man of India,” Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Nagpur Police celebrated National Unity Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour on Thursday.
The event was held under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sandip Patil, who also holds the additional charge of Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City. The celebration was jointly organized by the Crime Branch, Special Branch, Traffic Branch, Police Headquarters, Control Room, Motor Transport, Wireless Communication, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, and Sadar Police Station.
To commemorate the occasion, a “Run for Unity” (Run/Walkathon) was organized early in the morning at 7:00 am from Police Gymkhana, Civil Lines, with the aim of spreading the message of unity, discipline, and patriotism among citizens. Similar “Run for Unity” events were simultaneously held across all police stations in Nagpur under the presence of respective zonal officers.
The event was flagged off by IGP Sandip Patil, who led the run alongside senior police officers, personnel, their family members, and enthusiastic citizens, including 84-year-old Shripat Burade, school students, and NCC cadets.
The 2.5 km route began at Police Gymkhana, passed through Walkers Road, Japanese Garden Square, High Court Road, Ladies Club Square, and concluded back at Police Gymkhana. Participants ran amidst chants of national unity, their faces glowing with pride and hearts filled with enthusiasm for the cause.
Citizens along the route warmly welcomed the participants, cheering and joining in to promote the spirit of unity.
Senior officers including Additional Commissioners of Police Rajendra Dabhade and Shivajirao Rathod, Deputy Commissioners Lohit Matani (Traffic & Cyber), Rahul Makanikar (Detection), Shashikant Satav (Special Branch), Deepak Agrawal (Headquarters), Assistant Commissioner Shalini Sharma, Reserve Police Inspector Tiwari, PI Amol Deshmukh of Sadar Police Station, and a large number of police personnel, students, and citizens actively took part in the run.
The event served as a reminder of Sardar Patel’s vision of a united India and reaffirmed the Nagpur Police’s commitment to national integrity and public service.
