Nagpur: Cyber fraudsters have allegedly targeted a 60-year-old retired employee in Nagpur by promising to help him obtain a pension card. The incident took place in the Ajni Police Station area, where the victim reportedly lost around ₹5.5 lakh after sharing banking details through a link sent by the accused.
Fraudster Posed as Pension Card Representative

According to the complaint, the victim, a retired employee of the Construction Department, resides at Impress Mill Society in Srinagar.
On September 16, he reportedly received a phone call from an unknown mobile number. The caller allegedly introduced himself as someone associated with the pension card process and asked whether the victim had received his pension card.
The caller subsequently sent a link to the victim and asked him to enter the required details to process the pension card.
Bank and Debit Card Details Misused
Police said the victim opened the link and entered information related to his bank account and debit card as instructed.
After obtaining the information, the cyber fraudsters allegedly carried out unauthorised online transactions and transferred approximately ₹5.5 lakh from the victim’s bank account.
The victim came to know about the transactions after the money was withdrawn and subsequently approached Ajni Police Station to lodge a complaint.
Police Begin Investigation
Based on the complaint, Ajni police have registered a case against the holder of the mobile number used to contact the victim under relevant sections of law.
The accused has not been arrested so far. Police are investigating the case by tracing the mobile number and examining the online transactions and other digital evidence connected to the fraud.
Cyber Safety Reminder
Police advise citizens not to share bank account details, debit/credit card information, OTPs, PINs or other financial credentials through links received from unknown callers or messages, even when the caller claims to represent a government department or pension-related service.
