Nagpur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in alliance with Shiv Sena, has registered a decisive victory in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections, securing 102 out of 151 seats, according to the final official results released after completion of counting.
With the majority mark set at 76 seats, the BJP–Shiv Sena combine has crossed the threshold comfortably, ensuring full control over the civic body and ending any possibility of a fractured mandate.
Opposition Trails Far Behind
The Indian National Congress finished a distant second, winning 35 seats across various zones of the city. Despite pockets of localized resistance, the party failed to convert momentum into a city-wide challenge.
Among other parties and groups:
- AIMIM secured 6 seats, largely concentrated in minority-dominated wards.
- Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) won 4 seats.
- Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) managed only 2 seats.
- Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) won 2 seats.
- Smaller parties including BSP, MNS, AAP, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi and others failed to make a significant impact.
Zone-wise Dominance
The BJP–Shiv Sena alliance showed consistent dominance across all 10 administrative zones, emerging as the single-largest force in almost every zone. Their strongest performances came in Zones 2, 3, 8, and 10, where the alliance recorded double-digit victories.
The overall seat distribution by zones confirms a uniform mandate, rather than a fragmented or region-specific win.
Political Significance
This landslide victory is being viewed as a major political statement from Nagpur, the ideological nerve centre of the BJP and RSS. The result also marks a strong rebound for the BJP in Maharashtra after recent electoral setbacks and reinforces Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ grip over urban Maharashtra, particularly his home turf.
With the civic mandate now sealed, the BJP-led alliance is expected to move swiftly towards the formation of the NMC body and appointment of key office-bearers.
Final Seat Tally (NMC – 151 Seats)
- BJP + Shiv Sena: 102
- Congress: 35
- AIMIM: 6
- IUML: 4
- Shiv Sena (UBT): 2
- NCP (AP): 2
- Others: 0
The verdict leaves little room for interpretation: Nagpur has delivered a clear, stable, and one-sided mandate.
