The disruption prevented the leaders from reaching the state capital in time for the opening day of the Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra Legislature. Later, both Houses of the Legislature were adjourned after weather forecasts predicted heavy rainfall and strong winds across Mumbai and nearby regions.
Among those affected were Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, BJP MLAs Sameer Meghe and Praveen Datke, Congress MLA Vikas Thakre, and MLC Rajiv Potdar.
Speaking to reporters, Sameer Meghe said his scheduled 10:10 am IndiGo flight from Nagpur to Mumbai did not take off due to the adverse weather conditions. After waiting for updates, the group eventually decided to postpone their journey.
BJP MLA Praveen Datke said the decision to defer travel was taken to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety amid the worsening weather situation.
Congress MLA Vikas Thakre expressed concern over the uncertainty surrounding flight operations and the possibility of passengers getting stranded in Mumbai. He also urged the state government to consider extending the duration of the legislative session to make up for the time lost due to the disruption.
The heavy rain in Mumbai caused widespread disruption to flight operations throughout the day, affecting hundreds of passengers travelling to and from the city.
