Nagpur Metro on fast track; first phase to start by Dec end

Nagpur Metro Rail Project has been making appropriate buzz now as the city gets all set to see it happen soon. And the project till date is apparently speeding in the right direction. On Saturday, Brijesh Dikshit,  Managing Director of Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation called upon the media people to update on the works undertaken so far.

Main station a big challenge
He said the work under first phase of Nagpur Metro Rail Project will be started by the end of December, however the most challenging work remains construction of main railway station at Munje square. He said an ensemble of international architects will be roped in to craft the map for this building.

Tracks cleared for 50% loan amount
Dikshit informed that the necessary paper works to get 50% loan amount of the Rs 8600 crore-project has been already completed. He said the long standing issue of project financing has been sorted out as the discussion was underway from a France based company.

Geo Survey to end this month

He said the geological survey being undertaken to construct pillars for metro rail project will be over by the end of this month. He said the funds have been starting flowing for development of the project. Rs 15 crore has been received from State while Nagpur Improvement Trust has disbursed Rs 8 crore to keep the works in right pace.

Transit Oriented Development
Dikshit informed that Nagpur Metro project is being developed under Transit Oriented Development which can give an impetus for city growth in near future. A two-third of total electricity consumption by Nagpur Metro will be obtained through solar energy, which is significant in itself, he said.
