Nagpur: Living up to its reputation as the Second Capital of Maharashtra, Nagpur has delivered a stellar performance in the statewide assessment conducted by the Public Health Department for January, proudly securing the No.1 rank across Maharashtra.
Under the dynamic leadership of District Civil Surgeon Dr. Nivrutti Rathod, the district has emerged as a model of excellence in public healthcare. Adding further pride, Nagpur’s District Health Officer also clinched the third position in the state, reinforcing the district’s all-round dominance in the sector.
A model of grassroots healthcare success
This remarkable achievement is rooted in Nagpur’s strong focus on delivering quality healthcare at the grassroots level. From rural and sub-district hospitals to the newly established District Hospital, the administration has ensured that no section of society is left behind.
A wide spectrum of initiatives has powered this success, including:
• Comprehensive maternal and child healthcare services
• Effective implementation of pre-natal, post-natal, and family welfare programmes
• Free surgeries for underprivileged patients
• Advanced services under the Pradhan Mantri Dialysis Programme and telemedicine
• Outstanding performance in tuberculosis eradication, blindness control, mental health, palliative care, and non-communicable disease management
Vision for a healthier future
Expressing pride in the achievement, Dr. Rathod emphasized that the journey does not end here. The district is now aiming to further strengthen hospital infrastructure and expand the reach of flagship schemes such as:
• Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana
• Majhe Gaav–Arogya Sampanna Gaav
• Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan
He credited this success to the collective efforts of the district administration, including the District Collector, the Zilla Parishad leadership, and the dedicated Health Department workforce.
RBSK shines bright
In yet another feather in Nagpur’s cap, Dr. Rathod was honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation by State Health Minister Prakash Abitkar for securing second rank in the state under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK).
What sets this achievement apart is Dr. Rathod’s hands-on leadership style, regular hospital visits and direct interaction with patients, ensuring that policies translate into real impact on the ground.
Nagpur’s top ranking is not just a statistic; it is a reflection of a district that is setting benchmarks, inspiring others, and redefining public healthcare delivery in Maharashtra.
