Boiler Blast at Kalmeshwar MIDC Injures Three Workers; Fire Breaks Out at Lakadganj WarehouseNagpur, November 1, 2026: Two separate industrial accidents in Nagpur district have once again raised concerns over industrial safety and emergency preparedness. A steam boiler exploded at a factory in Kalmeshwar MIDC on Saturday night, injuring three workers, while a massive fire broke out at a plastic packaging warehouse in the Lakadganj Small Industries Estate on Sunday morning.

Three Workers Injured in Kalmeshwar Factory Blast

A powerful explosion occurred at Chemfield Company in Kalmeshwar MIDC at around 9:30 pm on Saturday, when a steam boiler suddenly exploded.

The blast was reportedly so intense that it caused a portion of the factory wall to collapse. Three workers — Neeraj Yadav, Ravi Nishad and 18-year-old June Bandsing — sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The injured workers were immediately shifted to a private hospital, where they received preliminary treatment. All three were discharged later that night.

Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

Preliminary assessments suggest that sudden fluctuations in temperature may have triggered the explosion. However, the exact cause is yet to be established.

Kalmeshwar police visited the site and have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Massive Fire at Lakadganj Plastic Warehouse

In a separate incident, a major fire broke out at a plastic packaging (bardana) warehouse in Nagpur’s Lakadganj Small Industries Estate on Sunday morning.

The warehouse reportedly contained large quantities of plastic raw materials and finished products. Due to the highly inflammable nature of the stored material, the fire spread rapidly, sending thick clouds of black smoke into the surrounding area.

Six to seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot as firefighters launched an intensive operation to bring the blaze under control.

Fire personnel are continuously spraying water to contain the flames. Efforts are also underway to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring factories and industrial units.

The presence of several plastic-related manufacturing units in the vicinity has made the firefighting operation particularly challenging.

Industrial Safety Under Scrutiny

The two incidents within a short span have brought industrial safety measures in Nagpur district under renewed scrutiny.

Questions have emerged over the maintenance of industrial machinery, fire safety arrangements, storage of inflammable materials and the effectiveness of emergency response systems at factories and warehouses.

The exact causes of the two incidents and the extent of property damage are yet to be fully established.
