Nagpur: Nagpur and the wider Vidarbha region are witnessing a fresh push in industrial development, with around 70% of companies that have signed investment agreements already receiving land, while work has started on nearly half of the projects.
The latest developments include the proposed Mahindra & Mahindra integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing project at Additional Butibori and plans to provide alternative land to JSW for its proposed investment in the region.
Mahindra project moves closer to implementation
Mahindra & Mahindra has already been allotted 800 acres at Additional Butibori, with payment for the land completed. The company is looking to begin work at the earliest.
The company had sought around 1,500 acres for its integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing project. The remaining land is expected to be made available subsequently.
The project is expected to bring substantial industrial activity to the Butibori region and generate employment opportunities, particularly for local youth.
JSW to get alternative land
JSW is also expected to receive alternative land for its proposed investment in Nagpur.
Around 5,500 acres are currently under acquisition in Nagpur district to meet the growing demand for industrial land. Areas including Katol, Saoner, Kuhi, Umred and Parseoni are seeing significant interest from companies looking to establish industrial units.
The land availability issue has become particularly important as major companies seek large, contiguous parcels for their projects.
20% land to be reserved for MSMEs
The industrial expansion is also expected to benefit smaller businesses.
A policy is being pursued under which 20% of land in industrial areas will be reserved for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The move is aimed at creating an ecosystem around large industrial projects, allowing smaller manufacturers, suppliers and ancillary businesses to establish units close to major companies.
Plug-and-play model to attract more investors
The plug-and-play industrial model is also being promoted to make it easier for businesses to begin operations without spending excessive time developing basic infrastructure.
With large projects moving forward, fresh industrial land being acquired and greater emphasis on MSMEs, Nagpur is positioning itself as one of Vidarbha’s key destinations for new industrial investment.
