Nagpur: The Nagpur-Indore Vande Bharat Express (20911/20912) is set for a major upgrade, with Western Railway approving the addition of eight more coaches, converting the train from an 8-coach to a full-length 16-coach rake.
A Western Railway circular issued on November 20 confirms that the enhancement, approved by the Railway Board, will be implemented simultaneously from Nagpur and Indore on November 24. The decision comes after the train consistently reported near-full occupancy, reflecting soaring demand on the inter-city corridor.
The expanded rake will feature a balanced combination of:
• Driving trailer coaches
• Motor coaches
• Trailer coaches
• Non-driving trailer coaches
This will significantly increase seating capacity across all classes, easing the long-standing waitlist pressure for passengers.
Railway divisions have been instructed to immediately update PRS (Passenger Reservation System) and other backend systems to reflect the revised composition. They have also been told to ensure wide publicity so that passengers are aware of the change.
The augmentation follows repeated appeals submitted to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the Railway General Manager, and the Divisional Railway Manager. ZRUCC member Brijbhushan Shukla, who actively pursued the proposal, thanked railway authorities for the approval. He added that Nagpur-Pune Vande Bharat could also see additional coaches soon.
Passenger response to all four Vande Bharat services under the Nagpur division —
• Ajni-Pune
• Nagpur-Bilaspur
• Nagpur-Secunderabad
• Nagpur-Indore
—remains exceptionally strong.
In October alone, these four trains carried 65,341 passengers, generating Rs 7,15,39,651 in revenue for Indian Railways.
The latest augmentation is expected to further boost connectivity and comfort for thousands of passengers travelling between Nagpur and Indore each week.
