Nagpur: A case has been registered against Umesh Singh Suryavanshi following a complaint by a 39-year-old woman, who alleged that she was raped at a hotel on Wardha Road in Nagpur, where the accused also allegedly recorded an obscene video and later demanded ₹1 lakh by threatening to make the video public.
Sonegaon police registered a case based on the woman’s complaint. The accused is reportedly absconding, and police have launched a search to locate him.
Woman Allegedly Brought to Nagpur from Wardha
According to the complaint, the woman, a resident of Wardha district who works in a government department, became acquainted with 40-year-old Umesh Singh Suryavanshi, a resident of Pipri Meghe, in 2023. The two subsequently became friends.
The woman alleged that Suryavanshi brought her to Nagpur from Wardha and took her to a hotel on Wardha Road. She claimed that he raped her there and recorded an obscene video during the incident.
₹1 Lakh Demand and Blackmail Alleged
The woman further alleged that after the incident, Suryavanshi threatened her using the purported video and demanded ₹1 lakh.
According to her complaint, he threatened to circulate the video on social media and defame her if she did not pay the money. Troubled by the alleged repeated threats, the woman approached the police.
Police Begin Investigation
Following the complaint, Sonegaon police registered a case and began investigating the allegations. Police are also searching for the accused, who is reportedly absconding.
CCTV and Other Evidence May Be Examined
Investigators are likely to examine CCTV footage, hotel entry and exit records, digital evidence and other technical information that may help establish the sequence of events.
The presence and movements of both the woman and the accused at the hotel, along with their arrival and departure timings, may also form part of the investigation.
Earlier Hotel-Related Cases
The hotel where the alleged incident took place has previously been mentioned in connection with various police-related matters and allegations concerning activities on its premises. However, these earlier matters have no established connection with the present case at this stage.
Any previous cases or allegations involving the hotel will need to be considered separately unless investigators establish a direct link with the current complaint.
Accused Yet to Be Traced
Sonegaon police have registered the case based on the woman’s allegations and are continuing efforts to trace Umesh Singh Suryavanshi.
The allegations of rape, recording an obscene video and demanding ₹1 lakh are subject to investigation. The final facts of the case will depend on the evidence collected by police and the outcome of the investigation.
