Nagpur: “Honesty pays,’ they say. And an auto driver experienced the saying coming true for him.

It all happened when a passenger named Anita Premdas Taksande, resident of Yashodhara Nagar, around 5 pm on Monday (April 24) approached Pachpaoli Nagar Police Station and informed that she hired an auto (MH-49/E 2109) from Itwari after marketing. She disembarked from the auto at Kamal Square but soon realised that her red-coloured bag was taken away by a co-passenger. The bag contained three tola gold ornaments worth Rs 80,000.

Acting swiftly on Anita’s information, a team of cops comprising WPSI Awchar, constable Subhash, sepoys Sanjay Pawar and Sanjay Rathod immediately mounted a search for the auto driver and succeeded in tracing the auto driver. The team of cops took the auto driver named Sheikh Shabbir Sheikh Shafi, resident of New Thawre Colony, along with them and asked him where he dropped other passengers. Sheikh Shafi took the cops at the places where he had dropped the co-passengers. The exercise proved fruitful as a woman was found possessing Anita’s bag. The bag was immediately taken custody and later handed over to Anita along the gold booty.

Appreciating the honesty shown by the auto driver Sheikh Shabbir Sheikh Shafi the Senior Police Inspector of Pachpaoli Police Station felicitated him by offering a floral bouquet and also rewarded Rs 500 as a token of gratitude.
