Nagpur, Gondia to go for Mpl council polls tomorrow

Nagpur/Mumbai: Polling for last phase of the Municipal council and Nagar Panchayat elections in Maharashtra will take place tommorrow with 11 local bodies in Nagpur and Gondia districts of Vidarbha voting to elect councillors and presidents.
The 11 municipal councils are – Kamthi, Umred, Katol, Kalameshwar, Mohpa, Ramtek, Narkhed, Khapa and Saoner in Nagpur district besides Tirora and Gondia in Gondia district.

There are 92 candidates in the fray for 11 municipal council presidents and 1191 candidates for councillor posts on 245 seats in these two districts.

After three phases of local bodies polls, ruling BJP is leading with 1090 councillor seats and 64 Municipal Council President posts.

Congress comes a close second with 894 seats, NCP has bagged 786 seats and Shiv Sena 598. The rest have been won by local outfits, Independents and other political parties.

As of now elections have been held for 4460 seats in three phases. Of the 180 posts of Municipal Council President, BJP leads with 64 followed by Congress 33, NCP 21 and Shiv Sena 26.
