Nagpur: The upcoming Nagpur-Goa (Pavnar–Patradevi) Shaktipeeth Expressway, a major infrastructure project by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is set to revolutionize inter-regional connectivity across Maharashtra. The expressway will link Nagpur to the Maharashtra-Goa border at Patradevi through a modern six-lane, access-controlled corridor spanning 802.6 km.
Interchanges with key expressways
Officials confirmed that the Shaktipeeth Expressway will feature multiple interchanges, providing seamless connectivity with other major expressways:
• Jalna–Nanded Expressway near Parbhani
• Surat–Chennai Expressway near Tuljapur
• Pune–Bengaluru Expressway near Tasgaon
These links will enable uninterrupted, high-speed travel between Marathwada, Central Maharashtra, and Western Maharashtra, allowing motorists to move across the state entirely via access-controlled expressways.
Joint measurement work for the Shaktipeeth Expressway is progressing rapidly across 12 districts, with significant progress already made in the Vidarbha region. Work in all districts is ongoing except in Kolhapur, where land-related processes are still being finalized.
Project overview and features
Named “Shaktipeeth” for its spiritual significance, the expressway connects several revered Shakti Peethas, including Mahur, Tuljapur, and Kolhapur, making it a vital corridor for religious tourism.
Key highlights:
• Total length: 802.6 km
• Lanes: Six-lane, access-controlled greenfield route
• Estimated cost: Rs 20,787 crore (including land acquisition)
• Starting point: Pavnar (Wardha district)
• End point: Patradevi (Sindhudurg district)
• Districts covered: Wardha, Yavatmal, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Beed, Latur, Dharashiv, Solapur, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg
Expected benefits
The project is designed to cut travel time between Nagpur and Goa from the current 18–21 hours to about 8 hours, drastically improving logistics, trade, and tourism.
It will also serve as a major economic and spiritual corridor, promoting religious tourism through better access to temples and shrines along the route. Additionally, the expressway is expected to strengthen intra-state connectivity, linking eastern and western Maharashtra more efficiently than ever before.
Once completed, the Shaktipeeth Expressway will not only transform long-distance road travel but also play a key role in Maharashtra’s broader expressway network, fostering regional growth and balanced urban development.
