Nagpur: A couple was booked by the Sitabuldi Police after they allegedly created a drunken ruckus outside a café on North Ambazari Road late Sunday night and reportedly misbehaved with police personnel, including a woman Assistant Police Inspector (API), who was allegedly pushed and abused while performing her official duty.

According to police, the control room received information about a heated argument between a man and a woman outside the café during a routine midnight patrol. A police team immediately reached the spot and asked the couple to calm down and accompany them to the police station.

Instead of cooperating, the couple allegedly argued with the officers. Police said the woman grabbed the uniform of the woman API and pushed her, while her husband allegedly abused the police personnel using obscene language. He also reportedly attempted to intimidate the officers by claiming political influence and connections.

Following the incident, both were taken into custody and sent for medical examination. The medical report allegedly confirmed that both had consumed alcohol.

Based on the complaint filed by the woman Assistant Police Inspector, the Sitabuldi Police have registered a case against the couple under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for obstructing a public servant from discharging official duties, insulting a public servant, and other applicable offences. Further investigation is underway.
