Nagpur Doctor Duped of ₹29.77 Lakh in Instagram Investment Scam
Nagpur: In a disturbing case of financial fraud, a doctor from Nagpur was allegedly cheated of ₹29.77 lakh after being lured into a fake investment scheme promising high returns in a pub and restaurant business.
Fraud Originated from Instagram Advertisement
The incident was reported from the Hudkeshwar area, where Dr. Nikhil Chandrakant Yewale fell victim to a well-crafted online scam. According to police, the doctor came across an advertisement on Instagram that promoted investment opportunities in a hospitality venture.
The advertisement claimed that investors could acquire a 30% stake in a pub and restaurant business and highlighted lucrative returns, making it appear like a credible business opportunity.
Fake Company, False Promises
After showing interest, the doctor was contacted by individuals who introduced themselves as the owner and director of Sua Hotels Private Limited. They allegedly convinced him of the business’s profitability using fabricated claims and misleading information.
Trusting the proposal, the doctor transferred money in multiple transactions over a period of time. In total, ₹29,77,000 was paid under the pretext of investment.
Realisation and Complaint
The fraud came to light when the promised returns never materialised and communication from the accused became inconsistent. Upon further verification, the doctor discovered that the company details and business claims were fake.
He then approached the police and filed a formal complaint.
Police Investigation Underway
Based on the complaint, Nagpur Police have registered a case under relevant sections related to cheating and fraud. Officials from Hudkeshwar Police Station have begun an investigation and are actively working to identify and apprehend the accused.
Police have also urged citizens to remain cautious while engaging in online investment opportunities, especially those promoted through social media platforms promising unusually high returns.
