NAGPUR: Dengue cases are rising sharply in Nagpur, with 72 infections reported in the first 18 days of October 2026, surpassing the 46 cases recorded during the entire month of September. Meanwhile, swine flu cases have declined significantly, according to health department data.
The rising dengue tally has raised concerns among health officials, particularly as residents store water at home amid fears of shortages. Uncovered water containers can become breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit dengue.
Nagpur Records 180 Dengue Cases Since January
Nagpur has recorded 180 dengue cases since January 2026. The 72 cases reported between October 1 and 18 represent an increase of more than 56% over September’s total.
The rise has occurred despite the absence of rainfall, highlighting the importance of preventing mosquito breeding in and around residential areas.
Residents have been advised to keep water-storage containers tightly covered, clean them regularly and remove stagnant water from their surroundings. Flowerpots, discarded containers and other places where water accumulates can also become mosquito-breeding sites.
Swine Flu Cases Drop Sharply in Nagpur
In contrast to the dengue surge, swine flu infections have declined considerably.
Nagpur recorded 128 swine flu cases in September, but the number fell to 22 in the first 18 days of October. The city has reported 229 swine flu cases since January this year.
The contrasting trends underline the need for continued monitoring of seasonal infections and sustained preventive measures.
No New COVID-19 Cases in September and October So Far
The health department has reported no new COVID-19 cases in Nagpur during September and the first 18 days of October. The city’s cumulative tally since January stands at 17 cases.
The latest figures, based on health department data as of October 18, highlight the growing need for dengue prevention even as swine flu infections decline.
