
Nagpur: Nagpur Police have arrested two persons for allegedly accepting online bets on the ongoing India-West Indies cricket match from a house in New Suraj Nagar, Ring Road, under the Bhandewadi police station limits.
The action was taken after the escort team of Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil received information that betting on the outcome of the cricket match was allegedly being conducted from the residence of Bunty Sheru Ahmed Pathan.
Acting on the information, a police team led by API Bhagwan Koli, head of the escort team, raided the premises in the presence of panch witnesses.
During the raid, police allegedly found Pathan along with Vicky Anil Bansod. According to police, the two were using mobile phones to facilitate betting-related transactions linked to the cricket match.
The police seized three mobile phones, a Samsung tablet and Rs 17,500 in cash during the operation. The total value of the seized property has been estimated at around Rs 1.05 lakh.
A case has been registered against both accused at Bhandewadi police station under the relevant provisions of law.
The police are now examining the seized electronic devices and financial transactions to establish the extent of the alleged betting operation. Investigators are also trying to identify other persons who may have been associated with the network and trace the flow of money involved in the alleged betting activities.
Further investigation is underway.
