Nagpur: Nagpur Police’s Crime Branch intensified its crackdown on narcotics by busting two separate MD (Mephedrone) drug operations in the city, seizing more than 85 grams of the contraband worth over Rs 8.5 lakh and arresting two accused. A juvenile was also detained in one case and later handed over to his parents after due legal formalities, while two other suspects remain absconding.
In the first operation, Crime Branch Unit-IV raided an area behind Nagulwar Bhavan near a drain at Sirsapeth in the Imamwada police station limits around 10 pm on August 5. Acting on specific intelligence, police arrested Lucky Ramdas Manpiya (22), a resident of Sleeper Colony, Sirsapeth. A juvenile found with him was taken into custody and later released to his father in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act.

Police said another accused, Bobby Malik, a resident of Mahal under Kotwali police station limits, is absconding and efforts are underway to trace him.
During the search, police recovered 70.110 grams of MD (Mephedrone) valued at approximately Rs 7.01 lakh. They also seized three mobile phones worth around Rs 95,000, a Suzuki Access two-wheeler valued at Rs 70,000, and Rs 6,000 in cash, taking the total value of the seized property to nearly Rs 8.72 lakh.
A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Imamwada Police Station. The arrested accused was medically examined before being handed over to Imamwada police along with the seized property for further investigation.
The operation was carried out by Crime Branch Unit-IV under the guidance of senior officers on the complaint of Police Head Constable Ajay Yadav.
In another operation, the Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Squad arrested a suspected drug peddler from the Lakadganj police station area and seized 15 grams of MD powder.
Acting on a tip-off, the team conducted a raid near Galaxy Gym at Juni Mangalwari, where Mohammad Sohail Abdul Gaffar Sheikh (29) was apprehended. Police recovered 15 grams of MD powder valued at around Rs 1.50 lakh from his possession.
The team also seized a mobile phone and a two-wheeler, taking the total value of the seized property to approximately Rs 2.80 lakh.
A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act at Lakadganj Police Station.
Police said another accused, Mohammad Naushad Imran Malik, is absconding. He is a history-sheeter with previous NDPS cases registered against him, and search operations are underway to secure his arrest.
Nagpur Police said the anti-drug campaign will continue with greater intensity and warned that strict action would be taken against drug traffickers and peddlers operating in the city.
