Nagpur: A 45-year-old police constable posted with the Nagpur City Police allegedly died by suicide by jumping into Ambazari Lake, with domestic discord suspected to be the reason behind the extreme step.
The deceased, Shivratan Belekar, was attached to Pratap Nagar Police Station and had been transferred there from Hingna five months ago. Police sources said he had been under stress due to an ongoing dispute with his wife, who was living separately at her parental home. The couple have two children.

Belekar had not reported for duty since February 19 and was not responding to calls. He had left his brother’s residence on February 22, leaving his mobile phone behind. When he failed to return, a missing complaint was lodged.
On Tuesday morning, locals spotted a body floating in the lake and alerted authorities. A team from Ambazari Police Station retrieved the body, which was identified through an ID card.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and launched an investigation.
