Nagpur: In a move aimed at accelerating the development of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) and addressing concerns over the slow progress of the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN), District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of Joint Managing Director of MADC. This decision comes in the absence of Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director Swati Pandey, who is based in Mumbai.
Reliable sources have revealed that the decision to appoint Dr. Itankar to this role was influenced by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Fadnavis reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the sluggish pace of development at MIHAN and advocated for a more proactive approach to its advancement.
The Government’s directive emphasizes that Dr. Itankar will be tasked with overseeing all aspects of MIHAN’s development and progress. A letter issued by Additional Chief Secretary Nitin Gadre to Dr. Itankar clearly states that the District Collector is to take charge of MADC until further notice. Given that the Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director primarily operates out of Mumbai, the need for an on-site presence to monitor day-to-day activities at MADC was deemed necessary.
This decision aligns with the constitution of MADC, which outlines the District Collector’s role as Joint Managing Director. However, the incumbent District Collector must be duly informed of this additional responsibility.
The move is expected to invigorate efforts to expedite MIHAN’s growth and address the concerns raised by various stakeholders. Dr. Itankar’s extensive experience and local expertise are anticipated to play a pivotal role in ensuring that MADC fulfills its developmental objectives efficiently and effectively.
The new arrangement underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure and economic growth in the region. It reflects a strategic step to capitalize on the synergies between the District Collector’s administrative prowess and the developmental requirements of MADC.
As Dr. Itankar assumes this dual role, all eyes are on the collaborative efforts that will be undertaken to propel MIHAN’s progress to new heights. The proactive approach is poised to inject fresh momentum into the development initiatives, and stakeholders are eager to witness the positive outcomes that this strategic decision will yield.
