Nagpur: The cement road from Radhe Mangalam Hall to Pratapnagar Square and further up to Savarkar Nagar Square has been in ruins for months after it was dug up last summer for underground electric cable installation. Seven months have passed, and the dug-up patches still haven’t been restored, triggering anger and frustration among residents of Pratapnagar.

The road had been newly completed and even inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. But the HDD drilling done for cable laying severely damaged the surface. Despite this, neither the Nagpur Municipal Corporation nor the contractor has taken any concrete steps to restore the road.

Repeated water pipeline breaks added to residents’ misery

During the cable work, the drinking water pipeline was ruptured three to four times. In the middle of summer, residents struggled for water as repairs dragged on. Locals allege that even after repeated mistakes, the contractor faced no action from the civic body.

Why no action on the contractor? Is he protected?

In a written complaint submitted by the 200-member Pratapnagar News Group to the NMC Laxminagar Zone and PWD officials, residents raised sharp questions:

“According to rules, the road must be restored within a month after work is completed. Why this endless delay? Is the contractor being protected, and is that why no action is being taken?”

Copies of the complaint have also been sent to the Chief Minister’s Office and local media editors.

Residents demand immediate restoration

The stretch is currently covered with potholes, uneven patches and broken sections, making daily travel difficult and increasing the risk of accidents.

Residents have clearly urged the municipal corporation to begin repairs immediately and restore the cement road to its original condition before someone gets seriously hurt.
