Nagpur: The vibrant festival of Chhath Puja, one of the most important religious celebrations for the North Indian community, was observed with great devotion and enthusiasm across Nagpur on Monday. Large numbers of devotees gathered at Ambazari Lake, Futala Lake, Police Line Takli, and Gorewada Lake to offer prayers to the setting sun.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) made elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the rituals and the convenience of devotees. Acting under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari and Additional Commissioner Smt. Vasumana Pant, the preparations were supervised by Deputy Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) Rajesh Bhagat.
On Monday, Bhagat personally inspected the facilities arranged at Futala Lake, accompanied by Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle and other civic officials.
To facilitate the devotees, NMC ensured cleanliness drives, proper lighting, barricading for safety, sound systems, and drinking water supply at all key immersion sites. Special attention was given to maintaining cleanliness around Ambazari Lake, where the largest gatherings took place. The access routes to the lake were beautified, and safety railings were installed to manage the crowd efficiently.
Temporary changing rooms and stands for performing rituals were also set up near the lake. To maintain hygiene, sanitation workers were deployed under the Solid Waste Management Department to ensure continuous cleaning during and after the celebrations.
In line with environmental conservation efforts, the NMC appealed to devotees not to immerse offerings or waste materials in the lake, urging citizens to cooperate in keeping Nagpur’s water bodies clean.
The festival concluded peacefully, with an atmosphere of devotion, community spirit, and cultural pride reflecting Nagpur’s growing diversity and inclusiveness.
