Nagpur: The city of Nagpur is in the final stages of preparations to host the prestigious Third BRICS Transport Working Group Meeting, a four-day international conference scheduled from July 9 to 12, which is expected to bring together transport ministers, senior government officials and policy experts from 11 countries, including the member nations of the BRICS grouping.
The high-profile event is being regarded as a major opportunity for Nagpur to showcase its rapidly expanding transport infrastructure, administrative efficiency and hospitality before an international audience. Authorities believe the conference will further strengthen the city’s position as an emerging logistics and transportation hub while enhancing its global profile.
To review the preparedness, Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari chaired a high-level coordination meeting on Monday, where she directed all government departments and implementing agencies to ensure seamless coordination and flawless execution of every aspect of the conference.
Addressing senior officials, Bidari stressed that every department must work in complete harmony to organise the event in a professional and memorable manner. She said the successful conduct of the conference would significantly enhance Nagpur’s international reputation and demonstrate the city’s capability to host major global events.
She noted that both the Central Government and the Maharashtra Government have mobilised their respective departments and agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the conference. Emphasising that there should be no lapses in planning or implementation, she instructed officers to discharge their responsibilities with utmost efficiency so that the event reflects the highest standards of governance, coordination and public administration.
The responsibility for organising the conference has been entrusted to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), while the district administration will oversee overall coordination and support arrangements. During the review meeting, officials assessed preparations related to the arrival of foreign delegations at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, accommodation arrangements, transportation, medical assistance, security, protocol management and conference logistics at Radisson Blu Hotel, which will serve as the official venue for the four-day event.
Special emphasis was also laid on civic management. Bidari directed all concerned agencies to ensure comprehensive cleanliness drives, beautification of major roads, uninterrupted water and power supply, effective traffic management and other civic services throughout the conference period. She instructed officials from the NHAI, Public Works Department (PWD), Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Maha Metro and Nagpur Police to appoint dedicated nodal officers for various responsibilities and ensure that visiting delegates do not face any inconvenience during their stay.
The conference itinerary also includes a visit by the international delegates to the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, one of Maharashtra’s premier wildlife destinations. The district administration, in coordination with forest authorities, has been instructed to make elaborate arrangements for the excursion, including transportation, security, visitor management and hospitality.
Officials said hosting the BRICS Transport Working Group Meeting marks another significant milestone for Nagpur, reflecting growing confidence in the city’s infrastructure and organisational capabilities. Besides strengthening diplomatic and institutional engagement among participating nations, the event is expected to provide valuable international exposure for the region and reinforce Nagpur’s emergence as a key centre for transport, logistics and infrastructure development.
The review meeting was attended by Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar, Nagpur Improvement Trust Chairman Sanjay Meena, Additional Municipal Commissioner M. Muruganathan, Additional Divisional Commissioner Pradip Kulkarni, NHAI Project Directors Abhijeet Jichkar, Santosh Kumar Katkar and Pravin Bijewar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ramesh Dhumal, Protocol Officer Indira Chaudhari, along with senior officers from various government departments and implementing agencies.
