Nagpur is likely to witness the hottest day of the season on Monday, with temperatures expected to soar between 45°C and 46°C. Weather officials have also warned of possible heatwave-like conditions across the city, prompting authorities to issue public safety advisories regarding extreme ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure.
According to the weather forecast, clear skies throughout the day will allow intense sunlight to heat the city rapidly from the morning itself. By afternoon, large parts of Nagpur are expected to experience severe and exhausting heat conditions.
Apart from the sharp rise in temperature, the UV index is also expected to remain at a dangerously high level. Even mild afternoon winds could feel scorching, increasing the risk of heatstroke, dehydration, fatigue, and skin-related problems.
Administration Issues Heat Safety Advisory
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation and the health department have urged residents to take extra precautions during peak daytime hours.
Key Safety Guidelines for Citizens
- Avoid stepping outdoors between 11 AM and 4:30 PM unless absolutely necessary, as this is expected to be the hottest part of the day.
- Stay hydrated throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Citizens are advised to consume water, ORS, lemon water, buttermilk, and sugarcane juice regularly.
- If going outdoors is unavoidable, wear loose cotton clothes, cover your head with a scarf or cap, and use sunglasses and umbrellas for protection from direct sunlight.
Health experts have also advised elderly citizens, children, and people with existing medical conditions to remain indoors as much as possible during the afternoon hours.
