Nagpur: The decorated boxer Alfiya Pathan of Nagpur, who finished second best to pocket a silver in the Asian Boxing Championship held in Mongolia recently, was accorded a warm welcome upon her arrival in the city on Sunday.
Upon her arrival at Nagpur Airport at 11 am on Sunday, all the boxing players, coaches and fans at the Mankapur Stadium, led by National silver medallist Samiksha Singh, who bagged a silver in the U-17 7th National Boxing Championship that was hosted by Maharashtra Boxing Association in Nagpur, accorded her a grand welcome with a shower of flowers.

Alfiya’s success has not only made the city proud but has also created a new source of inspiration for the younger generation. Samiksha said, “Alfiya has proved that dreams can be fulfilled through hard work. This is a victory for all of us.” Alfiya, who rose from the streets of Nagpur, has made the city a household name in the field of sports. By winning a silver medal at the Asianlevel, she showed that even with limited resources, anything can be achieved with determination.
Inspired by her success, five young boxers from Nagpur are now ready to fly the flag for the city at the national and international levels: Anant Deshmukh (SAI NCOE Rohtak and Delhi Sports School); Samishka Singh (SAI NCOE Rohtak and Delhi Sports School); Malhar Sable (SAI NCOE Sambhajinagar); Dhairya Kothi (ASI Pune SSCB) and Garima Singh (Delhi Sports School).
The reception was attended by NIS coach Ganesh Purohit, Ronak, Milind Sable, Pradeep Singh, Neeraj Kothi, Dronacharya awardee Vijay Munishwar, Akram Pathan, Pratap Patil, P Kotwal, Shailesh Pande, Pramod Singh, Dinesh Chapa, Vijay Chaudhary, Maya Duble among others.
