Nagpur City on Monday reverberated with chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya” and drum beats rent the air when thousands of devotees started to bid an emotional adieu to Lord Ganesh or Lord of Wisdom or Vighnaharta at the end of His 10-day sojourn.

The roads were flooded with devotees who came out slowly and steadily all along the day for immersion of their Dearest God at various lakes. Futala, Ambazari and other lakes depicted a colourful picture with musical revelry, dancing and singing songs in praise of Lord Ganesh adding an aura to the divine atmosphere.  On Monday, mostly idols installed in households were taken out for immersion and the bigger idols installed by Ganesh Mandals numbering in hundreds would be immersed on Tuesday as a part of convenience.

At all the lakes, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has made arrangements of artificial ponds to facilitate immersion and save the lakes from toxic pollution caused by chemically painted idols. Several voluntary organizations such as Green Vigil Foundation, Rotary Clubs, and other environment-friendly organizations are extending a helping hand to NMC by collecting “Nirmalya” (Flowers, garlands, plastic stuff and other Puja material).

A tight security was also in place all over the city particularly at the immersion sites.

The enthusiasm of kids, albeit with heavy hearts, was seen to be believed. The kids, with colourful attires, were dancing to the beats of Sandal and other bands and chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya,” Ek Don Teen Char, “Ganpaticha Jai Jai Kar,” “Mangal Murti Morya.”
