Nagpur: In a major breakthrough in the Bhandewadi murder case, police have arrested Aman alias Nato Kaitwar, the alleged mastermind behind the killing of 45-year-old Ganesh alias Gurudev Borkar, who was murdered in Hanuman Nagar on July 2. The accused had been absconding for nearly three months and was traced to Uttar Pradesh following a tip-off.
A court has remanded Kaitwar to police custody until October 16, allowing investigators to interrogate him about the alleged conspiracy, the execution of the murder and the roles of other accused.
The arrest marks a significant development in the case, in which the victim’s wife, Manisha Borkar, along with Abhishek alias Dadu Sakhare, Rohit Borkar and a minor, had already been arrested.
Three masked assailants attacked victim
The murder took place on the night of July 2 in the Hanuman Nagar area under Bhandewadi police station limits. According to the police investigation, three unidentified, masked assailants attacked Ganesh Borkar with sharp-edged weapons, inflicting fatal injuries.
Following the killing, police launched an investigation to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the crime. Investigators subsequently arrested four accused, including the victim’s wife, as the probe pointed towards an alleged conspiracy involving people known to the deceased.
However, Aman alias Nato Kaitwar, described by police as the alleged mastermind, remained at large, prompting efforts to trace his whereabouts.
UP hideout exposed by tip-off
Police reportedly received confidential information that Kaitwar was hiding in Uttar Pradesh. Acting on the lead, Bhandewadi police tracked him down and arrested him in the neighbouring State.
After his arrest, he was produced before a court, which granted police custody until October 16. Investigators are now questioning him to establish the sequence of events leading to the murder and determine the extent of his alleged involvement.
His interrogation is also expected to help police examine the links between the accused already arrested and the person suspected of orchestrating the crime.
Marital discord suspected to be motive
According to the investigation, Ganesh and his wife, Manisha, had reportedly been involved in a domestic dispute and were living separately.
Police allege that Manisha claimed to have received death threats from her husband and subsequently conspired with associates to eliminate him. The investigation points to the alleged use of contract killers to carry out the murder.
These allegations are part of the ongoing police investigation and will have to be established through evidence and judicial proceedings.
With the alleged mastermind now in custody, police are expected to focus on reconstructing the conspiracy, verifying the roles attributed to each accused and establishing how the attack was planned and executed.
